Hello from Scotland - My names is Mary McGovern (Father John McGovern and Grandfather John) - Great Grandparents lived in the Paisley area of Glasgow at the turn of the century when the came over from Ireland. My grand-father's relative was the MP for Shettleston in Glasgow who emigrated to the States - It would be interesting if you have had any other information. Hi - I've been trying to find ties to the McGavin name, and have been told that we were originally McGoverns, but the name was changed somehow during the immigration process. Back in Ireland, however, the name remained the same.

Apparently from Drumkeen, Fermanagh County, my great great great grandfather was John, and was married to Anne. I don't know if she was his second wife or not, but he had two families.

The older three boys were William, Henry, and John. They made their way to the US and then to Canada in the 1850's, and their name became McGavin.

Another son bythe second marriage was Thomas. He came to the US later, settling in New Jersey, but apparently retained the McGovern name. If you have any ties to this, or it rings a bell at all, please let me know. Thanks John McGavin john.mcgavin@sympatico.ca

Hi, I've just sent you a message about my aunt, Marie Dunlop (McGovern). Just after sending it I received a phone call from a friend of mine who does genealogical (why can someone not invent a shorter word for that) research professionally. He suggested that it would be useful if all the McGoverns who access this site could provide the names, places and dates of birth of as many McGoverns as they know. From this it would be possible to ease considerably the preparation of a master McGovern chart to show the spread of our great clan. Let me have any thoughts you might have.

Hi, My name is Michael W McGovern. I have just discovered your site and have tried, unsuccessfully, to sign the guestbook and leave a query on the noticeboard. Perhaps you would be able to help. My father, also called Michael is attempting to trace his sister Marie. Their father was Thomas McGovern from Ballyconnell, Cavan who moved to Belfast and then Portaferry. Marie moved to America in the 1960s and was last known to be living in the Queen's area of NYC. She married someone called Dunlop. We are having difficulty finding her and would be much obliged for any assistance.

By the way I am delighted to find your site and intend to visit it regularly as a means of finding about the rest of the family, whether related or not. Thanks Michael W McGovern I am 14 years old and I'd love some more info on my family. I've been to your site a few times and I love it. I live in Australia so could you please put me in the Australian McGoverns part of this wonderful site. My mum and dad knew nothing about what was in this site. I have some info on John Joseph McGovern, born around 1860-1865, he married Elizabeth Carlon in Englewood, Victoria in 1884 he was born in Baermore, Ireland his parents were Francis McGovern and Catherine Maguire.

I am wondering would any one knows how many children he and his wife had and do you have any earlier info on his family. James McGovern of Australia MCGOVERNAUTO@bigpond.com

Hi there Frank, Believe it not we are really interested in seeing this site kept going, although considering our lack of involvement, I'm surprised you've kept going as long as you have. Keep it up. Some of us are just really slack and deserve a kick up the backside. Seeing photographs of other McGovern's is really quite a kick especially if you strike somebody with a likeness to the McGovern's we know. Anyway, this was just a quick note to let you know that your effort in the site is appreciated k.mcgovern@xtra.co.nz

Hi Frank, I just bought a family plaque today, thanks to the wonderful links you have The order form didn't work for me in the UK, but they were kind enough to telephone me to receive my order. I'd certainly be interested in the CD you mention, but wonder if it is available to order outside the US. As mentioned I'm from the Edinburgh branch in the UK.
Keep up the fine work, jmcgovern@onmail.co.uk

Thank you so much for writing me back... that was very nice of you. well... my name is Nina McGovern which you know, and I'm 18. I live in Mt Laurel NJ. I grew up in Philadelphia which is where my dad is from I believe. I think he's 57... but I'm not sure. to my knowledge he was 39 when I was born. My mom doesn't talk about him much, I even know my dads brother...who doesn't seam to like me very much he never did. But when I ask him he says "I haven't seen frank in years." so he doesn't want to help me. And I can barely get anything from my mom, she let it slip once that I have 5 older brothers, and a 23 year old sister named Kelly, but that's all the information I could gather from her... besides "he never cared about anyone but himself." I
I

I would think he would remember his own daughters birthday. I know he has Kelly's name tattooed somewhere on him... I just really want to get to know him. and let him know that he has a healthy 18 year old daughter, and a genius 20 year old son. Maybe it's stupid but when I get married I want my dad to walk me down the isle... when I have a baby, I want him to know his grand child. I just get sick and tired of my friends taking their fathers for granted by saying things like "I hate my dad... he's such a jerk." when they don't know what it's like not to have a father. So I hope your children? or you son ( I don't know if you have more kids. ) well, I hope they don't take you for granted. Thank you so much forwriting back, and offering help. and you could give would be great. Thanks once again, Nina McGovern stanst18@yahoo.com

Frank, Thank you for responding. The grandson of Philip McGovern (b. abt. 1885) thinks they had the nickname "FOXY MCGOVERNS" because Philip had red hair as a distinguishing trait. Charlene A new message has been added to McGovern re: "FOXY MCGOVERNS" of Cavan. Has anyone ever heard of the "FOXY MCGOVERNS" of Cavan? That was the nickname of Philip McGovern and also his children.

One son, Francis McGovern was born in 1910 in the District of Holywell no 2, Enniskill, Cavan and died in 1977 in Chicago, Illinois. Philip was from Mully and his wife was Elizabeth (McDonald) McGovern or Bessie (McDonnell) McGovern. Their sons were Patrick, Barney, Owen & Terry. Their daughters were Betty (Bessie), Delia (Bridgette) & Molly. If you have any information about this family, please contact me at EMERA76147@aol.com.

So happy to find this site!! My g-g-g grandfather was James McGovern, born in Ireland @1840, who married Roseanna Mullen, also born Ireland. They settled in the Boston / Arlington MA area sometime prior to 1868. They had at least three daughters, Annie B. (m. Hodge); Catherine (m. Lynch); Gertrude (m. Swenson). May have been sons as well, as the names Bernard and Frederick McGovern show up as pall bearers. Wish I had more info about this family...
.Best wishes to everyone Susan Toomy neodane@bellsouth.net
