03/18/2001 - Hello Fellow McGoverns,

Happy St. Patricks Day! Hope everyone had a great time. We went into New York City to see the parade and see our son FX, who is a piper march and play. He later played at a local pub and was the hit of the evening!

For the Clan McGovern CD offer go to: http://www.mcgovernonline.com/cdoffer.htm

We are pleased to announce the winner of the Clan McGovern CD drawing and the winner is Mr. Andy McGovern of Aughavas Co. Leitrim Ireland. Congratulations Andy! I will get the CD off to you next weekend.

The response to the CD offer has regrettably been abysmal - the purpose of the sale of the CD is merely to cover costs of the website - the costs are over 50.00 per month.

I would like to thank Mrs. Marcia McGovern Morris of Tampa Florida for ordering the CD. She, to date is the only McGovern to have ordered the CD, and I really do appreciate Marcia, I will ship to you next weekend.

Please help us with the costs of the site. In return for your support you will get a first class CD with the entire contents of the Clan McGovern site as well as Jim McGoverns - Book of the McGoverns. It is a very, very good deal. The best to all and God bless Frank For Clan McGovern Network

02/07/2001 - Its been a long time - sorry about that - Check out our Best of Clan McGovern CD offer by clicking here.

Hello fellow McGoverns,

Happy New Year to All! Like many others I have made several resolutions for the New Year, to stop smoking, lose weight, actually it's quite a long list! But, one resolution I do want to achieve is to devote more time to Clan McGovern Network. I would like to add some new and interesting things - including perhaps a free links list - where you can add your own link, online quizzes, and several new articles, an easier vehicle for interactive genealogy data. But I really need your input as to what you would like to see on the site..

I am also making available the entire Clan McGovern website - including Jim McGoverns entire book(in adobe .pdf format) - ie you will be able to print it and it will look like a book, as well as John Henry McGoverns book. This will be the entire site - including the books, the photos, the maps, the music, without any ads! There will also be at least one new article on the CD dealing with the possible identity of the 'real' King Arthur - you might be surprised!

The CD will be shipped in a jewel case, and will be priced at 25.00 US = postage charged will be actual postage cost. Yes there is a discount on additional copies (20.00 US per) You will get the entire site and more including all correspondence and genealogy notes and queries.

As an incentive you will also receive your own mcgovernonline email address (ie - yourname@mcgovernonline.com) we will set it up as a real address or an alias to whatever address you would like to forward to. We thank you for past and future support. This is your chance to help support and defray costs of this - your site - and get a terrific package besides. So, please reply back for further details.

One last item - everyone that replies to this note - should they decide to take advantage of the offer or not will be entered in a drawing for a free copy of the 'Clan McGovern Collection'. Please do reply back, and may this year be the best ever! Thanks, Frank

08/28/99 -
Hello everyone! We just got back from our trip to Cape Cod. We love the Cape - it's beautiful!! We spent our third trip up at the Irish Village in West Yarmouth, it's a great place, food, music, pub! My son F.X. took a prize on talent night with the bagpipes, and my daughter Grace Kelly (8) bagged a prize with a Spice Girl song.
Not much to add this month on my end. Andy McGovern, one of our Irish cousins wrote me a letter. Andy is an author, he has written a book entitled "They Laughed At This Man's Funeral ' which to date has sold over 2.500 copies. Whats incredible though is that Mr. McGovern suffers from MND(also knownas Lou Gehrigs disease here in the US), and four years ago he started writing the book on his computer using his right foot! Andy is true model of a person perservering in attaining a goal and overcoming incredible odds in staying alive. He is a wonderful person. I've included his letter to me as well as his website.
Kip McGovern of Tennessee is throwing a McGovern Reunion in Tennessee in August of the year 2000. This isn't his first either. His last reunion sported over 250 McGovern's. Kip if there is any way we can make it we will try!
And apologies to my brother Mike - the Earthquake lookalike - I promise I will get your photos in as soon as possible.

07/09/99 - Hello everyone,my apologies for being away for so long! To those who have written me and not received a reply, please accept my apologies. Life has been hectic, such is the life of an MIS person, father, husband, homeowner and bagpipe dad. The latest changes include in famous McGoverns: a revamped EarthQuake MaGoon page, tributes to brothers Robert and Jerome McGovern and Charles 'Buck' McGovern. I have added yet another coat of arms - courtesy of Faye-Linda McGovern.
As you may see I am adding more McGovern pictures. I dearly love the pictures. I get to see what other McGoverns look like and sometimes I see similarities. My dad grandfather Francis(when he was younger), my dad Donald and my son Francis look a lot like Robert M. McGovern - who is featured along with his photo. While my brothers and I look a lot like Earthquake. I had dearly hoped that I would one day hear from Earthquakes brother - but to date I have not.
Please, please send me copy and stories for the site - and send those pictures! I dearly love this site - if I didn't I wouldn't have spend hundreds of hours on it - and I hope you love it too. I need your help - send me material either through email attachments - or contact me for my snailmail address. I will return your photos if you want.
Whats coming next - pictures of my wife and kids, more of my family pictures. I will start adding the Book of the McGoverns(compliments of Cary) - if for any reason there are any copyright problems I will have to remove it.
I'm also thinking of adding another list server where we can offer services, sell goods and try to help out other McGoverns. Anybody want to organize a Clan Reunion for some time in the future like next year or within the next three years?
Lastly a belated congratulations to Kevin McGovern of Huntington NY, my sons fellow pipe band member from the Saffron Kilts and highly respected long distance runner. Kevin placed 21 in a field of several hundreds in the Long Island Marathon. Its good to see a local guy do well, better to see an Irishman do well and best yet to see a McGovern do well.
01/02/99 - Happy New Year to all! I've added a List Server to the site - it is located on the Guest Book page. By subscribing to the list server(its free) you would receive emails from other List members - regarding genealogy news, etc. By signing up to the Clan McGovern mailing list - I will email you whenever there are any changes to the site. I am also adding a search engine very soon. Also, added 4 new links: our first UK McGovern site - way to go Selina!, one from Canada, and two from the 'Land Down Under', including a very interesting site by Rosalinda concerning the creation and transportation of her tribute to the King(Presley, that is) - thank ya, thank ya verra much Rosalinda! And alas, the Chat section is gone. Hope '99 is the best for everyone of us!As Tiny Tim would say 'God Bless us, everyone'!

11/14/98 - My apologies to Michael McGovern and Charles McGovern for not getting their info and photos on the site yet. Life has been very hectic for me of late. Added link to Arlington National Cemetery - bio on Robert McGovern, awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously, and mentions Jerome McGovern killed two weeks later(Silver Star)- Charles' brothers. Coming soon -- Irish pics from Michael McGovern, more info on Robert McGovern and Camp McGovern in Bosnia. Did you know a McGovern was awarded the Victoria Cross?
Chat no longer exists - not worthwhile. Added family motto (probably butchered the Latin - it means: "I govern by serving". God bless all!

09/02/98 - Added the 1888 article from Ellen concerning:Ghastly Stabbing Fatality in 1888

08/31/98 - Cary McGovern's recent trip to Ballymagauran with pics! Coming soon article from Ellen McGovern about 1880's murder of a McGovern in Cavan. More to come soon on history of McGoverns. Thanks to John Killilea was able to locate the historic book of the McGovern's from a bookseller in Ireland.
Lots of exciting stuff happening. Hope everyone is well and God bless us all!

08/20/98 - Just got back from vacation, highlight was the Pipe and Drum Corps competition at Hunter Mountain NY. F.X. Jr's band - the Saffron Kilts grade 5 band made an admirable showing, the grade 3 band took all honors, they are stupendous! Spent the rest of the week in Irishtown (East Durham, NY). Added several entries into genealogy. Received word form Leigh Hotujec that Earthquakes remains are buried under a new highway in Laos, or are under the shoulder of the road. Red tape is keeping them from exhuming the remains. They might not be able to do anything until 2003-2004! Appears Laos is just as bureaucratic as the good old US! Did a little 'net surfing on the name McGovern, Cavan, Ballymagauran, etc., and have gleaned some interesting info on the name, check out McGovern History! Hope all are well, and God bless everyone, Slainte!

07/06/98 - Hope all the yank McGoverns had as rollicking a Fourth of July as I did, it was a grand day - fun was had by all!
The latest - old site is still up - but will be gone soon. Hope to have a search engine for the site soon too. Added some more info to old guestbook section under miscellaneous. Also, have added a very interesting section under miscellaneous contributed by John Killilea - its top notch McGovern history! Thats all for now! God bless you and all yours!

06/19/98 -Old sites still up - but not much longer.
Heard from Karen of Mass. today - Paddy had his operation and is recovering in the hospital - please remember him in your prayers. We all wish him a speedy recovery!
Added to Miscellaneous - McGovern PA, Ballymagauran, link to Cavan Historic chronology, link to Ballymagaurans own pagan idol of yore - Crom Cruach, added link to McGovern Homes,
Added to Clan splash page - a very interesting tidbit about the Great Clan McGovern!
Added to US McGoverns - James P., Martin and Tammy - each has their own web site - check them out!
Lastly - added some new midis and a sign up sheet for the mailing list- on the Guestbook page.
Enjoy! Until we meet again!
Frank

06/12/98 - The old site will be gone within a week. The old guestbook info is located under Miscellaneous. Sorry, I can't afford two sites. There will be a link to the new site at the old one. So within one week - the site will be solely at McGovern Online.

06/08/98 - Please remember Paddy Owen McGovern of Massachusetts in your prayers, for a successful operation and his speedy recovery.
Well, as the site gets bigger and bigger it is getting increasingly harder to maintain it - I will give it my best effort. We have gathered a lot of genealogical information over the past several months. I am trying to tie it all together and present it on line. The Genealogy Notes and Queries format just isn't cutting it. I have thought about a spreadsheet, links via CGI script (sort of like an index), any body have any ideas. Please remember I am running this by my self and cost is a definite factor - as I am absorbing the costs also.
I have had a request to show where all of us McGovern's live graphically. I don't know if I am equal to the task. I can tell you the most of the response has been from the US, then Scotland, Canada, Australia, Ireland and then the UK. I was really surprised at the number of McGovern's in Scotland.
There is definitely some patterns showing up. Glengavlen and Swalinbar are mentioned over and over again. The name James is by far the most popular throughout McGovern history, and there is a incredible use of the name Owen as a first and middle name - the middle name being most prevalent. Anyone know about the Owen connection?
I have been getting spammed rather heavily (up to 10,000 emails at a time - at work and home by someone who tells me that he finds my site bothersome. The person lives in Ireland, and is quite possibly a student at Trinity College in Dublin. He has crashed our mail server at work several times, and his pranks are no longer in jest, but are criminal. If the general consensus by the Clan is for me to end the site I will, but I truly love this whole concept and feel it has added value to my life and hope it has done the same for you.
I would like to thank Andy Kirby for his contirbutions to the site, as well as Kevin McGovern and Karen McGovern. I really could use more photos, stories and any material from all the Clan. I need your help to make this site a success.
Congratulations to Robert McGovern and Ginger on their upcoming marriage. Here's a big rebel yell for you guys!
I hope there is no confusion - The Clan McGovern Network was, is and will always be free to the world. If anyone wishes to have a web site done on McGovern Online there is a charge - as there is a great deal of work involved.
Well Slainte Cousins, until next time!
Frank

05/10/98 - from Frank McGovern - Hi McGoverns! As you probably read we will be moving soon to www.mcgovernonline.com. My sons Brendan and Kieran will be making their respective Communion and Confirmation next week - and I am attempting to get my company ISO certified - so it's a busy month. My nephew Terry McGovern Jr., has been moved to a rehab hospital and his brain is healing nicely. Thanks for your kind notes and prayers. Earthquake Magoon's brother has been found - good news indeed! Also, Karen McGovern of Massachussetts has hooked up with her long lost relative Sam of Canada, this is a Clan McGovern success story! Well that's all the news that's fit to print.

04/01/98 - from Frank McGovern, Web master:

4/20 - added my families old pictures - Frank

If everyone could say a prayer for my nephew Terrence McGovern I sure would be thankful. My brother Terry's son fell off a roof he was working on two weeks ago, while doing volunteer work for his church. He broke his sixth vertebra and suffered multiple skull fractures. to the best of my knowledge he is still comatose, and could use all the prayers we can give him. Thank you so much, and God bless you.
Please check out the splash page - link entitled vitally important news - this was news forwarded to me by my brother michael: the body of James McGovern was found in Laos - he was shot down during the battler of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. The government and Air America association are looking for his next of kin. His last known address was in Elizabeth, NJ in 1950 and he was born in 1922. For all I know he could have been my great uncle Jimmy's son. If someone knows of Mr. McGovern, or the whereabouts of any living relatives please contact the person i have linked on that page.
Coming soon - it's official mcgovernonline.com will be coming soon. I have the Domain name but am looking for a host willing to donate or offer a good discounted rate for approximately 250 MB of space, unlimited traffic, cgi, java and if possible unlimited email accounts. I have an ISP lined up but he charges 35.00 per month. I am currently paying 10.00 per month. I would very much like to give out emails to anyone who's interested when it's official - your email would be: your name@mcgovernonline.com
If anyone is interested in such an email account let me know. if there is little interest in doing it i can go with another isp and save some bucks.
Hello, and welcome to the Clan McGovern web site.
There's a lot of us McGovern's on the net, from all walks of life, with many different professions, living in numerous countries, with the US, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Scotland and the UK claiming the bulk of us -
We have one thing in common - OUR NAME.
We McGovern's are a very prolific family, there are literally thousands of us and hundreds of us on the internet. So, I decided to create a meeting place and informational source for all of us. That being the case I've got some ideas on where to go with this - but need your input as to what you'd like to see.
I'm still looking for your information - send me whatever you'd like - photos, news, ads, and I will put it on the site. I really do need your help to do this. I hope to compile a genealogical database for we McGovern's. It will be available to all of us, hopefully right here on the site. I would still like to have sections such as a history of the McGoverns, individual family information if anyone cares to supply me with info and pictures. I would love to see lots of McGovern pictures and see what other McGoverns look like and to see if there are strong family resemblances. Believe it or not there is an extremely strong resemblance to 'Earthquake' and my family. I'd like to set up a links page to all the McGoverns on the net worldwide, links to their home pages and/or email addresses. I may do away with the McGovern chat area.
Help me out and give me some ideas and input. over the next several months this site will grow and grow. I would love for you to be a part of it. We will have our own network for our common heritage, we will be able to see and talk to each other, and perhaps even help each other.
If you click on family arms above - kindly provided by Kevin McGovern of Illinois, you will be able to read a short history of the McGovern name.
Please email me and let me know your thoughts.
All the best and hope to hear from you soon!
Francis Xavier McGovern (Frank)
