Ain't it Grand!
Cary
just got back from a trip to Ireland and was kind enough to share
some of his photos with us! Above is the welcome sign to the town.
Cary says that he found Ballymagauran to be 'one of the most beautiful
places that we visited in Ireland, it has two pubs, two B&B's
and a great Lake for fishing - Lake Ballymagauran of course!

Cary's
photo of Lake Ballymagauran - a beautiful shot Cary!
And
now for the clincher - the remains (ruins) of the Castle of the
McGovern's!

All
that remains of the proud Castle of the McGovern's
Cary
says that, 'the local historian in Bawnboy, a gentleman by the
name of Chris Maguire(at 81, and a history teacher, very credible
and knowledgeable) told him that the castle was built by Felim
Magauran, ( later MacGovern, then McGovern), and was destroyed
by that blight on Ireland(my words) Oliver Cromwell!'
Cary further related to me that he was able to acquire a 35 page
history of the McGovern's from the eighth to nineteenth centuries!
If allowable by the author I might be publishing excerpts on the
site!
Cary
says that 'Tullyhaw is gorgeous from the top of the mountain.
The local amateur archaeologist brought us up on it.' He was able
to get a panoramic photo from the fortress at the top.
Cary,
I think I speak for all of your McGovern cousins when I say thank
you from the bottom of my heart. I've never been to Ballymagauran,
and I wish my dad was still around to see the pictures.
