Cavan
History
In the 1590's Clans in Cavan, the O'Reillys and McGoverns joined
in the rebellion against the encroaching Tudors, which ended
in the defeat of the Irish in the battle of Kinsale in 1601.
The region put up resistance against the English but suffered
crushing defeat. The land was taken over by landowners loyal
to the English crown. This undoubtedly had an effect on the
landscape which turned to the development of the Linen, woollen
and tanning industries.
